I just got some GOOP in my inbox and this time Gwyneth got her most “literary-minded friends” (they don’t even watch TV or anything!) to recommend some books for us to read. The list includes such hidden, underrated gems as Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina (recommended twice), Faulkner’s The Sound and The Fury, Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment and even John Kennedy Toole’s The Confederacy of Dunces!
Madonna (you know, the singer?) at least went out of her way to recommend some books that aren’t off of a high school reading list. She even recommended Mario Vargas Llosa, which kind of makes me love her.
