Gossip Bloggers Are Experts in Pop Culture

I was researching old posts on Yeeeah yesterday (and by “old” I mean from this past week) and I saw a post about Amy Winehouse winning, like, a billion Grammys. It was a typical, boring post: blah blah blah Amy wins blah blah rehab joke until I saw this quote:

“The only award she didn’t scoop up was “Album of the Year,” who went to some jazz queer with the word “cock” in his last name.1”

OMG! “Cock” in his LAST NAME? But what about that intriguing footnote? It read: “NOT making this up.” Wow! You mean srsly, there is “some jazz queer” with “cock” in his last name and he had the audacity to snap an award from half-living Amy Winehouse? Now who could this random, insignificant musican be? Obviously he must not be someone important. And with “a curse” in his name he must be some sort of freak! Hmm…

Oh, that’s right, Herbie Hancock, a fucking legend

Not that I would expect someone who writes about pop culture for a living to know a famous musician or anything. Regardless, the writing on Yeeeah! always gave me the impression that it was written by a 9th grade boy who would list “Playboy LOL” as one of his favorite books on his undoubtly seizure-inducing Myspace page, so I guess knowing a musical icon that wasn’t topping TRL in the past 2 1/2 years is a little out of the question.
